Joanna Dryden
Mrs. W. H. H. Dryden well-known and beloved pioneer woman of Farnam,
passed away at her home here Friday evening at 10:30 o'clock at the age of
75 years, 3 months, and 4 days.
Joanna Dierdorff was born in Blakesburg, Fountain County, Indiana Jan.
16th, 1848, where she grew to young womanhood. She moved with her parents
in 1866 to Cumberland County, Illinois. Here she met and married William H.
H. Dryden February 10th, 1870. To this union were born eight children,
seven daughters and one son, all survive her except one daughter. She is
also survived by fourteen grandchildren.
She moved with her family to Saunders County, Nebraska in 1880. In
1892, she comes to Farnam where she lived until her death, April 20, 1923.
After her conversion in 1867, she lead a complete christian life until
her death.
Mrs. Dryden took an interest and active part in the devlopment of the
community and especially in the schools and churches. She was a splendid
neighbor and loved by all who knew her.
She leaves to mourn, her husband William H. H. Dryden, six daughers and
a son, Harry of Whittier, Calif., Mrs. Eliza Uhlig of Reed Point, Mont.,
Mrs. Sarah Hiestand of Eugene, Ore., Mrs. Nancy Hiestand of Billings, Mont.,
Miss Margaret Dryden of Pocatella, Idaho., Mrs. Lois McHoes of Eugene, Ore.,
Mrs. Rose Balch of Norwood, Idaho. All were present at the funeral except
Mrs. Rose Balch and Mrs. Lois McHoes. A grandson, Everett Hathaway of
Denver, Colo., Maxwell Kreiter, Auburn Wash, Miss Elsie McHoes, all of
Crawford, Nebraska were also present.
The funeral services was held at the M.E. church Tuesday afternoon,
conducted by Rev. M. S. Satchel and burial was made in the Farnam Cemetery.
The Echo joins in extending sympathy to the sorrowing husband and
children in their bereavement.
