Mrs. Mary Ortensie (Forbes) Hathaway
Died at her home eight miles southwest of Farnam, in Frontier
county, November 25th, 1901, Mrs. Mary Ortensie Hathaway, wife
of George Hathaway.
Mrs. Mary Ortensie Hathaway was born in Illinois, June 6th,
1864, the daughter of John and Lydia Forbes. She was married to
George Hathaway, April 25, 1886, in Osburn county, Kansas, where
they resided two years. From there they moved to Frontier
county, where they have lived until the time of her death. The
day previous to her death she was in as good health as usual,
retiring at bedtime. At four o'clock she complained of a pain
in her stomach which resulted hemorrhage of the lungs, causing
her death at 2 P.M. She was unconscious most of the time. All
was done that human hands could do for her but the Heavenly
father saw fit to take her from this world of pain and suffering
to reign in that home that has been prepared for all who love
Him. She was much loved and will be greatly missed, not only in
her home but by all that knew her.
She leaves a husband and five children [Alvin, Grace, Ida, John, Mable] to mourn her loss. The
oldest child 14 and the youngest is 3 years of age. The
bereaved family has the sympathy of all.
The funeral was preached at the home on the 26th by Rev.
Stinnette. The text was found in I Cor. 15:2.
The remains were interred in the Farnam cemetery.
