George Erland Lungrin, 67, died Sept. 22, 2001, at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg.

He was born Dec. 14, 1933, on the family farm southeast of Elsie to E. S. R. and Florence Thaden Lungrin. He attended country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Elsie High School in 1951.

On Nov. 20, 1958, he married Edna Ruth Cox at Grainton Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany. In 1959, they moved from Elsie to a farm north of Farnam, then later to their own farm. They farmed and ranched until he was forced to retire due to poor health. They moved to Farnam in 1995.

Mr. Lungrin was a member of the Farnam United Methodist Church. He served on the Farnam Co-op Board, Farnam School Board, Farnam Housing Authority Board, Farmers Home Administration of North Platte Board and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars 8146.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Kristi (Robb) Joedeman of Gurley; a son, Roger (Darla) Lungring of Farnam; a stepson, Jeremy; a sister, Edith (Paul) Chevalier of Wallace; three granddaughters, Kim, Shelia and Holly Joedeman; a step-granddaughter, Kelly; and two step-great-grandchildren, Alex and Zeke.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Manfred and Harold.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Farnam United Methodist Church with Dr. William Deahl officiating. Burial with military honors by the Farnam American Legion Post 288 will be in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell.

Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. today and from 9 to 5 p.m. Monday at Blase Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg.
