J. J. Allen Dies at Home in No. Platte

John J. Allen, an old timer in this community, passed away last Friday at his home in North Platte, where he has been bedfast for the past several months. He was 82 years of age. The Allens lived north of here for many years, moving to North Platte about nine years ago. He has been in poor health for several years.

Funeral services were held at North Platte Monday, and the body was brought to Farnam for burial. A brief service was held at the cemetery before the burial.

John J. Allen

John J. Allen was born in Ypsilanti, Mich., Sept. 20, 1853. He went with his parents to Omaha in 1859 where they settled on a homestead and where he grew to manhood. He was married April 11, 1882, to Helen Avery.

To this union were born four children: three sons, Arthur, Albert, and Howard, and a daughter, Mary. Two sons, Arthur and Albert and the daughter preceded him in death.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen moved to Gothenburg in 1889 and later in 1895 they moved on a farm in the southern part of Lincoln county, near Farnam. In the fall of 1928 they went to North Platte where he resided until his death.

Beside his widow and a son, he is survived by nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

He passed away Friday, March 13, at 3 p.m. at the age of 82 years, 5 months and 23 days.

Funeral services were held at North Platte with Rev. E. M. Steen of the Presbyterian church in charge. Burial in the Farnam cemetery. Pallbearers were H. J. Allen, Henry Hastings, William Allen, O. R. Stull, Robert and Richard Allen.
