Obituary Collection
Ross Vaughn "Johnnie" Best

The community of Curtis was saddened when word came Thursday morning of the death of Mr. R. V. Best of McCook. To all his old friends, Mr. Best was always known as Johnnie and he lived in the area since early childhood.

He was born in Chase County on April 2, 1904 to Charles Robert and Ethel May (Parks) Best. His parents lived on a farm and handled the mail at Best Post Office, a pioneer rural mail office. The family moved to a farm near Stockville, where John grew to manhood.

On May 21, 1932, he was married to Florence Brooks and after buying the Moorefield hardware store, the young couple moved there and were residents of this village for several years.

In 1939 they moved to Norton, Kansas where he was a salesman and then in 1944 they moved to McCook, Nebraska where they have purchased a home.

Mr. and Mrs. Best have one child, a son, John Brooks Best, born to them in Norton.

Johnnie was a fine friend, a kind neighbor and respected by all who knew him. Sincere sympathy goes out to his bereaved ones by the entire community.

NOTE: Mr. Best died Sept. 7, 1944 in McCook. A second son James Carl Best, was born Jan 3, 1945. Mrs. Best raised her sons in McCook.
