An Unexpected Death

The sad and unexpected news of the death of Mrs. Arthur Bick was received in Farnam about one o’clock Monday afternoon by her father, Mr. John Whitney.

Mrs. Bick had undergone an operation for appendicitis at the North Platte hospital and it was thought she was improving nicely, in fact friends from Farnam were visiting her last Sunday and found her sitting up reading a book. She seemed to be in a cheerful mood and was telling of her plans on her return home. Monday morning, however, she was taken suddenly ill and died in a short time.

The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved relatives.

A short prayer service was held at the home of her father this afternoon, after which the remains were removed to the Baptist church where the regular service was held at two o’clock. Interment was made in the Farnam cemetery.

Obituary

Alice Earnestine Whitney was born September 2nd, 1883 at Farnam, Nebraska. Died at North Platte, Nebraska, December 25th, 1916. Age 23 years, three months and 23 days. She was married to Arthur H. Bick February 4th, 1914. Mrs. Bick and her husband were converted in a revival meeting at Lexington, April 1916, united with the Farnam Baptist church in June, of which she was a most loyal and faithful member until she heard the summons to come up higher.

Mrs. Bick leaves a sorrowing husband and father, brother and sisters with a host of relatives and friends to mourn her loss.

Yet we must part, and, parting weep;
	What else hath earth for us in store?
These farewell pangs, how sharp and deep;
	These farewell words, how sad and sore,
Yet we shall meet again in peace,
	To sing the song of festal joy
Where none shall bid our gladness cease
	And none our fellowship destroy.
There, hand to hand, firmlinked [sic.] at last
	And heart to heart enfolded all,
We’ll smile upon the troubled past
	And wonder why we wept at all.
