Eugene Ceder

The people of this community were saddened the morning of Jan. 21st by the death of Eugene Ceder.

Mr. Ceder was one of the old timers here. He came here from New York in 1887 and has been a resident of this community ever since. He was well known all over this section of the country and well liked by everybody.

Mr. Ceder was born in Chautauqua county, New York, Sept. 19, 1844 and at the time of his death was 77 years, 4 months and 2 days of age.

He served with distinction during [the] civil war and was mentioned several times for bravery in a history of his regiment published at [the] close of [the] war.

He came to Frontier county from New York and afterwards sold his farming interests and moved to Farnam where he engaged in business for a few years when his health compelled him to cease business. He spent some time at Battle Mountain Sanitorium Box Springs, So. Dakota and also at Soldiers Home Grand Island to catch of relief but no permanent cure was possible and he passed away on above date.

His funeral was held in Bayley’s hall Jan. 23. Rev. A. D. Jones, Episcopal minister officiated and Odd Fellows conducted services at grave[side]. A large delegation from Eustis, Lexington and surrounding towns attended the funeral.

He leaves surviving him a wife, Mrs. Retta Ceder, two daughters, Mrs. Alva Todd of California, Mrs. Alice Golay of Farnam and son Louis Ceder of California.
