Obituary Collection
Horace B. Fitch Dead.

Horace Fitch died March 17 after an illness of ten weeks of enlargement of the liver. He was born Feb. 29, 1848 at Olmstead, Ohio, being a direct descendant of Rev. James Fitch, who came from England to Connecticut in 1688 at the age of 16. Nov. 8, 1870 he married Martha Perkins at Olmstead, Ohio. Mrs. Fitch died Jan. 3, 1882 leaving five children. He married Mary A. Harding, March 31, 1883, who with another child, making six children, are left to mourn his loss. One son and one daughter living in Ohio, having always, since the death of their mother, made their home with relatives there. He came to Frontier county in 1885 and settled in what has since been called the Ohio settlement, three miles south of Farnam, and has since been engaged in farming and carpentering. A house built by a Fitch 200 years ago in Conn. and still occupied is proof that the Fitchs do well what they do. Mr. Fitch being no exception to the rule. ‘Hody,’ as he was familiarly known, was of social disposition and a genuine wit, always on hand to give a neighbor a needed lift and always responded willingly to watch by the bedside of the sick. His death makes a gap in life that will not be easy to fill. His remains were laid to rest in the Farnam cemetery under the auspices of the A.O.U.W., of which he was a worthy member.
