John Franzen

John Herman Franzen, the son of William E. Franzen and his wife, Grace Catherine Juilfs, was born May 24, 1908, at the family farm home near Farnam, Nebraska. He was baptized in St. John's Lutheran Church at Eustis in infancy and attended rural grade school near his home.

On May 25, 1940, he was united in marriage to Freda Strickland at Elwood, Nebr., and to this union one son, Donnie, was born.

The family lived on his parents farm northeast of Farnam until 1958 when they moved to town and operated a restaurant but John always remained interested in his livestock.

John passed away at the Gothenburg Community Hospital, February 3, 1971, at the age of 62 years, 8 months and 9 days.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife, Freda, one son Donnie and his wife, Sandy all of Farnam, one sister, Mrs. Harry Soller, of Gothenburg, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

He was a devoted father, husband and friend, always ready to put others ahead of himself.

Services were held at the Farnam United Methodist Church, Friday, February 5, 1971, with the Rev. Conley Hinrichs as Clergyman. Music was furnished by Mrs. Delores Nickerson, Mrs. Audrey Kotschwar and Mrs. Evelyn Davis. Pallbearers were Willie Soller, Ed Krone, Art Schurr, Ralph Parker, Max McNickle and John Bosch. Final resting place was the Farnam Cemetery.
