James A. Griffis Dies

James A. Griffis, a former resident of this community, died Sunday night at the Fort Meade, South Dakota, hospital, where he has been taking treatment for several years.

He was born at Farnam and was 58 years of age. He served in the navy during the first World war. He was a brother of Mrs. W. H. Palmer of Farnam and Mrs. R. N. Palmer of Ogallala.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time but will be a military service by the Farnam Legion post, under the direction of the Olesen Funeral Home. Burial will be at Farnam.

James A. Griffis

James A. Griffis, son of A. P. and Amy Griffis, was born February 11, 1893, and departed this life July 15, 1951, at the government hospital at Meade, South Dakota, at the age of 58 years, 5 months and 14 days.

He spent most of life around Farnam until he entered the navy in 1917. He was in the service two years, when he lost his health, and then spent 21 years in government hospitals.

He leaves to mourn his passing two sisters, Mrs. Emma L. Palmer of Farnam and Mrs. Alice Palmer of Ogallala, one half sister Mrs. Grace Lufkin of Belate, Wisconsin, and one nephew Wayne Palmer of Farnam. One sister Celia A. Stouffer of Idaho Springs, Colorado, preceded him in death.

James was a good brother, always kind to everyone, and served his country well. His life was one of suffering after World War One. Now he rests from all suffering and cares of this life.

Funeral services were held by Elder E. E. Giesler of Moorefield in the Farnam Methodist church Friday, July 20, under supervision of the Olesen Funeral Home. Singers were Dan McNickle and Dale Montgomery, with Mrs. Raymond Smith as pianist. Pallbearers were Burr Parker, Wayne Parker, John Rowland, O. T. Thompson, Ray Blackwood and Chriss Hesse.

Burial with full military honors by Farnam Legion Post 288 was in Farnam Cemetery.
