Mrs. Amos Hampson Dies

Word was received here Monday evening by Bert Hampson that his mother, Mrs. Amos Hampson had passed away at Caldwell, Idaho, where Mr. and Mrs. Hampson have been living since last fall.

The remains are being brought here for burial and will arrive at Gothenburg this afternoon and brought here for the funeral services which will be held at the Farnam Methodist church, at 4:00 o’clock.

The many friends are deeply grieved to learn of the passing of Mrs. Hampson, who made her home in this vicinity for the greater part of her life.

Mrs. Amos Hampson


Fannie Amelia Jones was born in Champaine [sic] County, Illinois, October 16, 1872. Departed this life at Caldwell, Idaho, February 22, 1937 at the age of 64 yrs., 4 mo., 6 days.

She was married to Amos Hampson November, 1893 at Stockville, Nebr. They started their new home near Farnam, in Frontier County, which was their home until last August. To this union were born eight children. A daughter, Ina May and son, Dean Woodrow having preceeded her in death.

Those left to mourn her going are a living husband, six children, Mrs. Lula Wilson, Watson, Mo.; Mrs. Blanche Surber, Hill City, Idaho; Mrs. Hazel Armitage, Kearney, Nebr.; Mrs. Ethel Rosendall and Bert Hampson, Farnam, Nebr.; Mrs. Leta Stapp, Caldwell, Idaho. Also 16 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two brothers, three sisters, other relatives and a host of friends.

Mrs. Hampson was a member of the Mennonite Church. A loving wife and mother has gone to be with her Lord.

Mother darling you have left us and your face we shall see no more, but we all shall join you, on the bright and shining shore.

Funeral services were held from the Methodist Episcopal Church, Farnam, Nebraska, February 25, 1937 at 4 o’clock. Conducted by Rev. Samuel McKeown. Burial was in the Farnam Cemetery.

The music was furnished by a quartette: Mrs. Walter Pollard, Mrs. Lynn Crossgrove, H. R. McNickle and David Banks, with Miss Josie Messersmith at the piano.

Relatives here for the funeral of Mrs. Amos Hampson last Thursday were: Wm. Jones, Tilden, Nebr.; Mrs. Ida Mackie, Council Bluffs, Ia.; Mrs. Cecil Wilson, Watson, Mo.; Mrs. Joe Armitage, Kearney; Mrs. Jake Surber, Hill City, Idaho and Denny Hampson of Cambridge. Mr. Hampson and Mrs. Jake Surber accompanied the remains here from Caldwell.
