Death Robs Edith Hazen of Life Sunday

Tragedy and sorrow enveloped Farnam and vicinity Christmas day, when the eight year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. Hazen, Jr., was, as far as is known, instantly killed when she fell from a horse she was riding.

She went home from church that morning with her cousin, Rachel Roberts, and were out riding in the afternoon. Several persons noticed the girls just before the accident, and said the horse was walking, when little Edith lost her balance and fell, and in doing so she pulled Rachel from the horse, too. Edith fell on her face, and it is generally thought that it broke her neck when she struck the ground.

Rachel tried to talk to her but to no avail, so went to her home for help. The little victim was immediately rushed to the Reeves hospital, but the cords of her precious life had been severed, and no aid from human hands could help her.

Obituary

Edith Sylvesta Hazen, was born Sept. 23, 1919 in Mt. Hope school District, in Frontier County, Nebr., and was called to her heavenly home Dec. 25, 1927. Age 8 years, 3 months and 2 days.

She leaves to mourn her departure, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. Hazen, Jr., two sisters, and a large number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Geo., Seick, from the M. E. church Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 27. Interment was made in the Farnam cemetery.

The floral offerings were many and beautiful—silent tokens of the sorrow felt throughout the community for those who have lost a precious child from their household.

Little Edith was a faithful member of the Methodist Sunday school, a ____ bright little girl, willing to do ____ in any program or at school and she was a favorite among all who knew her. Her smiling little face will be sadly missed, as will her presence in the home, but memories are often sweet, and so it will be with her. Nothing can take away cherished thoughts of her, and those who loved her can take the memory of her precious and pure life as a balm to their weary and aching hearts and know that she is one of God's chosen "Jewels."
