Lois Leon Hoppe

Lois Leon Hoppe, 93, of Grand Island, formerly of Farnam, died Nov. 1, 2000, at Tiffany Square Nursing Home in Grand Island.

She was born July 29, 1907, to Robert and Maude Todd McLaughlin at Moorefield, where she graduated from high school. She attended Kearney State College for two years.

On Jan. 16, 1928, she married Edwin H. Hoppe at St. Francis, Kan. Her husband died May 28, 1996. They lived in Stratton and later moved to a farm in Kansas. They moved to the Farnam-Moorefield area, where they lived for many years. She always found time for a garden and enjoyed canning. She enjoyed African violets, which were her favorite houseplant. She enjoyed quilting, tatting, crocheting and knitting for her family, friends, grandchildren and other relatives. She was a member of the Farnam Methodist Church.

Mrs. Hoppe is survived by two daughters, Mary Ellen (Rex) Stewart of Bella Vista, Ark., and Carol Warner of Littleton, Colo.; a son, Glen (Marlene) of Doniphan; two sisters, Helen Hosick of Curtis and Roberta McLaughlin of Hastings; nine grandchildren, Brad ( Lisa) Stewart of Mechanicsville, Va., Bryan (Lisa) Stewart of Albuquerque, N.M., Wendel (Donna) Hoppe of Houston, Weldon (Paula) Hoppe of Colon, Sharla (Brian) Rader of Henderson, Scott Warner of Denver, Karen Warner of Aurora, Colo., Steve Warner of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Jana Hoppe of Doniphan; 16 great-grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Gene; her parents; 1-sister, Verna Sweet; a son-in-law. Ed Warner; and two grandsons, John and Wesley.

Memorials are suggested to the Farnam Senior Center or Farnam Methodist Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the church in Farnam with Dr. William Deahl officiating. Burial will be in the Farnam Cemetery.

Blase Memorial Chapel of Gothenburg is in charge.
