OLD FARNAM RESIDENT PASSES AWAY AT GOTHENBURG

Death has again visited our community and taken from us one of our worthy pioneers in the person of William Buchanan Patterson.

Mr. Patterson was the son of Wm. and Elizabeth (Powell) Patterson, born in Indianapolis, Indiana, September 5th, 1855. Married to Celia E. Patterson, Feb. 2, 1879. He came with his wife to Nebraska in 1884 and homesteaded near Orafino, where he lived until 1903 when he moved to Farnam, then in 1912 they moved to Gothenburg where he has resided since.

Mr. Patterson endured many hardships, especially in early life his father being killed by accident when he was a small boy, then coming out to this country while it was still new, with no railroads close he had to haul freight from McCook and Arapahoe, and endure the hardships the pioneers of his day had to endure. Along with his cattle raising Mr. Patterson had a blacksmith shop, where he did that sort of work for the neighborhood.

His faithful wife went to her reward in 1907. During January Mr. Patterson was taken ill with small pox from which he never recovered. All was done for him that medical skill and kind relatives could do but to no avail, he passed to the great beyond March 7, 1930 at the age of 74 years, 6 months, 2 days.

He leaves to mourn their loss eight children, Warren E., Lester C., LeRoy, Mrs. Pinkney Carder, James H., George, Mrs. Pearl Clabaugh and Omar. Twenty-six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Three brothers, J. H. of Poplar Bluffs, Calif., Alfred of Edwardville, Kansas and Dudley of Chula Vista, Calif. One sister, Mrs. Ame[?]ica Harvey of Kansas.

Funeral services were held Monday at the Baptist church conducted by Rev. Crabtree, burial in the Farnam cemetery.
