Oliver Abel Sheffield

Oliver Abel Sheffield, second son of Wallace and Louie Sheffield, was born in Boone county, near Woodward, Iowa, March 2, 1887 and departed this life March 25, 1939, age 52 years and 23 days.

In the spring of 1901, with his parents and three younger brothers, they moved to Woods county, Okla., that fall going to Rawlins county, Kansas. The spring of 1903, the family moved to Frontier county, Nebraska where he made his home until in September 1938, when he came to Idaho to make his home.

On March 20, 1908, he was united in marriage to Miss Cora Brown of Orafino, Nebr. To this union were born five children, Wilbur of Frontier county, Nebr., Alta, who died at six months of age, Alice, Ruth, and Pearl at home.

Soon after their marriage, he and his wife were baptized and joined the “Church of God”, remaining in that faith until death. He enjoyed talking on the Bible and its truths, and attending church services, and was ready to do his part whenever called upon.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, son, three daughters, two grandchildren, his mother, three brothers, Elmer and Bert of Meridian, Idaho, and Jess of Gothenburg, Nebr., and host of other relatives and friends. The youngest brother, Robert preceded him in death on March 25, 1923.

He had leased a ranch northwest of Meridian, and had started his spring work when he took a cold or the flu which developed into double pneumonia.

Services were held in the Robinson Funeral Parlor at Meridian, Idaho, Tuesday, March 28. The body was taken to the train and shipped to Farnam, Nebr., where services were held in the Methodist church, Thursday, March 30. Burial was in the Farnam cemetery.

There comes a time for all of us
   When we must say goodbye,
But faith and hope and love and trust
   Can never, never die;
Although the curtain falls at last,
   Is that a cause to grieve?
The future’s fairer than the past;
   If only we believe
And trust in God’s eternal care
   So when the Master calls,
Let’s say that life is still more fair
   Although the curtain falls.

Card of Thanks

We wish to express our sincere thanks to the many friends and relatives for the flowers, cards, words of kindness and sympathy during our bereavement.

Mrs. Cora Sheffield and Family.
