Carl John Velte

Carl John Velte was born at Wehrheim, Germany, April 25, 1875 and departed this life at his home near Farnam, Nebraska, December 18, 1925. Aged 50 years, 7 months and 23 days.

In June 1888, at the age of thirteen years, he came alone to America, settling at Lexington, Nebr., where he worked for a number of years. When a young man he went to Missouri where he attended the Central Wesleyan College for two years. In 1899 he came to Farnam as Manager of the Hanna Lumber yard. On January 1st, 1902 he was united in marriage to Mertie Edna Rice. With the exception of three years since that time they have made their home at Farnam.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his beloved wife, four daughters, Florence, Gladys, Helen and Anna and two sons, Harold and Gaylord. Two brothers and two sisters, Rev. W. R. Velte of Corder, Mo., Henry Velte of Eustis, Mrs. Augusta Strate of Medford, Ore., and Mrs. Elizabeth Henrich of Portland, Oregon. Besides these, he leaves many distant relatives and a host of dear friends who will miss him.

Mr. Velte was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Gothenburg, and belonged to the Congregational church of this place. He was always a faithful follower of Christ, a kind and loving father and husband and a true and loyal neighbor, whose going will leave a vacancy which no one can fill.
