James Irving Austin

James Irving Austin was born February 22, 1880 at Waverly, Ill. He passed away at the McCook hospital October 20, 1933.

In November 1886 his parents moved to Frontier County, Nebr., and in the spring following, moved north of Farnam, where they homesteaded on Plum Creek. At this place he grew to manhood. He was married to Alice Souder, May 2, 1900, and he and his wife homesteaded near the home place. In 1908 he sold his farm and moved to Hayes Center on a farm where he lived until 1918. His health became so poor that he sold out in June 1918 and moved to Curtis where he has since lived.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, Mrs. Alice Austin, three daughters, Mrs. G. T. Foote of Farnam, Mrs. O. H. Buethner of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Elvin Wear of Curtis, his mother, Mrs. Emma Austin of Farnam, four sisters, Mrs. Henry Craig of Brady, Nebr., Mrs. James Craig of Ogden, Utah, Mrs. Walter Pollard and Mrs. Fred Rowland of Farnam, two brothers, Ira Austin of Gothenburg and George Austin of Anamosa, Iowa, eight grandchildren, besides many other relatives and friends.

Mr. Austin was in the Real Estate business with Ira Turpen from 1919 to 1920 and in 1924 he bought the Pierce Produce business. He retired from this in April 1932 and since that time he has been Constable and Jailer. He was a member of the Methodist church of Curtis.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Oct. 22 from the Methodist church. Rev. Robberson was in charge of the services at the church and the Odd Fellows Lodge having the services at the grave. Interment in the Curtis cemetery.
