Bringelson, Alvin M.

GOTHENBURG - Alvin M. Bringelson, 92, of Gothenburg died on Aug. 29, 2007, at Gothenburg.

Alvin M. Bringelson was born in Webster County, near Inavale, on June 15, 1915, to Otto and Carin Marie Nelson Bringelson.

Alvin attended elementary schools in Webster County as a child. Following his mother's death in 1924, he made his home with relatives at Farnam. He graduated from Farnam High School in 1934. He then came to the Gothenburg area and found employment with several Banner Community families during the Depression. He worked as a farm hand until 1938 when he became a farming partner of Rahl Buddenberg.

He married Rachel Hyde on June 3, 1938, at Banner United Methodist Church. Alvin and Rachel were the parents of two children, Richard Alvin and Deborah Rae.

Alvin farmed south of Gothenburg until 1965 when he and Rachel moved to their farm south of Maxwell. They resided there until 1984 when they retired in Gothenburg. In 2005, they moved into Stone Hearth Estates in Gothenburg.

Alvin was a 73-year member of the Banner United Methodist Church where he was active on boards and committees. He was a past master of the Gothenburg Lodge AF&AM 249, 32-degree Scottish Rite of the Masons, and a past member of the Eastern Star. He served as president of the Maxwell Rural Fire District for 18 years and also served on the elevator and bank boards. He was a leader in 4-H livestock clubs and a charter member of Lions Club.

Survivors include one son, Richard A. and Julie Ferris Bringelson of Doniphan; one daughter, Deborah Rae Bringelson Spading of North Platte; five grandchildren, Liwana Bringelson of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, Dawn Bringelson of Denton, Carin Bringelson of Madison, Wis., Melissa Spading Jerabek of Omaha and Elizabeth Spading Freeze of Bridgeport; 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Esther Burwell of Inavale.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rachel; sisters, Elsie, Hazel, Eleanor and Frances; his brother, John; a son-in-law, Jerome Spading; and a grandson, Mark Spading.

Memorials are suggested to Banner United Methodist Church or the Masonic Eastern Star Children's Home, Box 1327, Fremont, NE 68025.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Banner United Methodist Church at Gothenburg with Pastor Janie Freeman officiating. Burial will be in the Gothenburg Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m., at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg.
