Bessie May Frew

Bessie May Frew, 90, of Gibbon, Nebraska, died April 27, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Society in Gibbon.

She was born February 5, 1918, to James and Cecil Griswold Hoppes in Gothenburg, Nebraska. She attended Farnam Public Schools graduating in 1937. She worked in the local grocery store and the Pool Hall until retirement.

She was united in marriage to John Alexander Frew August 2, 1943, in at the Eustis Methodist Parsonage in Eustis, Nebraska. Bessie and John resided in Eustis until November 1989, then moved to Gibbon.

She joined the Farnam Methodist Church in 1937, and became a member of Methodist Church in Eustis. Bessie was a current member of Faith United Methodist Church in Gibbon. She belonged to the ladies aid at church, quilting clubs, and the Legion Auxilary.

Survivors include her husband John of Gibbon; two sons and their wives, Doug and Mary Frew of Kearney and Jim and Cyndee Frew of Niwot,Colorado; six grandchildren, Robbie Frew of Gibbon, Kelly and Clayton McDonald of Norfolk, Nebraska, Travis Frew of Gibbon, Justin Lujan of Longmont, Colorado, Venus and Ryan King of Grand Island, Nebraska, Tessie and Bryce Zeller of Arcadia, Nebraska; and nine great-grandchildren, Mason, Taylor, Perrin, Garrett, Jenna, Nora, Landon, Payton, and Addyson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Cecil Hoppes; two sisters, Bernice Hueftle and Doris Hueftle; and a son, Dwayne Lee.

Funeral services will be held at Faith United Methodist Church in Gibbon, Thursday, May 1, 2008 at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Eustis at the West Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Gibbon or Eustis Volunteer Fire Department.
