KEARNEY - Sandra L. "Sandy" Grim, 66, of Kearney died Feb. 15, 2013, at her home near Kearney.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2013, at First Baptist Church, with Pastor Stan Murdock officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the columbarium at the Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell.

There will be no visitation. Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services of Kearney are in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Grim was born April 17, 1946, in Gothenburg to Myron "Mike" H. and Hazel L. (Adkinson) Williams, which is where her family lived until age two when they moved to Arcadia, until the passing of her father in 1956. In the summer of that year her mother, sister Judy and she moved to Farnam, where they would be closer to relatives as they grew up. Valedictorian of her 1964 graduating class at Farnam High School, Sandy chose to further her education at the Lincoln School of Commerce. Upon completion, she was employed at the Nebraska Book Store for one year. Choosing to live in Kearney with good friends, she took a position with Philip G. Johnson accounting firm in 1966. It was while in their employ she met her Danny….as they both tell "their story", it was truly love at first meeting and they married on April 4, 1968. Their marriage was blessed with two births, a son, Wade Lee, in Kearney, and a daughter, Wendy Danette born while they lived in Greeley, Colo., after moving there in 1973. The family moved back to Kearney in 1978, where she enjoyed being a housewife and mother until taking a volunteer position at Kearney Junior High (now Horizon Middle School) in the copy room that led to her being hired as secretary to the principal for the past 28 years. A job she was extremely good at and held with pride, enjoying office staff, teachers, students and parents until December 2012, retiring to spend more time with her husband, family and friends, unfortunately due to ill health. Being diagnosed with cancer, retirement was not hers to enjoy. Sandy enjoyed a number of hobbies, favorites of which were reading, quilting and her outdoor flower garden, traveling in their motor home and a somewhat new love for her was with her arms wrapped around Danny touring Nebraska on their Beautiful Gold Wing Trike. Opening her home to friends and family was one of her greatest joys. Most especially her S & B buddies on Monday night.

Surviving relatives include her husband, Danny of Kearney; a son, Wade Grim and his wife, Mindi, of Omaha; a daughter, Wendy Grim of Lincoln; a grandson, Mario Grim of Kearney, two granddaughters, Haley and Molly Grim of Omaha; and a sister, Judy King and her husband, Larry, of Kearney; three sisters-in-law, LouWana Mills and her husband, Gordon, of Adams, Judy Williams of Gothenburg and Iris Hoffling and her husband, Greg, of Sioux City; three brothers-in-law, Don Grim and his wife, Pat, of Central City, Brent Grim and his wife, Mellody, of St. Librory and Brad Grim and his wife, Marcia, of Grand Island; 24 nieces and nephews and because of her big heart and kind ways, leaves more friends than the average to mourn her passing.

Sandy was preceded in death by both her and her husband's parents along with brother-in-law, Jim Williams.

Memorials are planned to the Kearney Public School Foundation to establish a scholarship in Sandy's name for a Horizon Middle School graduate.
