Bernard E. Marlin

GREEN RIVER, Wyo. - Bernard "Bernie" Edward Marlin, loving husband, father, and grandfather, 78, of Green River, Wyo., formerly of North Platte, died March 20, 2005, at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County, Rock Springs, Wyo., due to complications from a recently diagnosed illness.

He was born May 20, 1926, in Farnam, to Julius Edward and Eunice Ellen Castor Marlin.

On April 5, 1944, he married Ila Frances Cover in Montrose, Colo. He attended school in Brady, Maxwell, and North Platte. He served in the Navy as a 1st class seaman during World War II. He was employed as a machinist apprentice and later as a pipefitter.

Mr. Marlin was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 0028, and the Plumbers and Pipefitters National UA Local 192. His interest included cars, yard work, country music, watching game shows, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Ila Marlin of Green River, Wyo.; four daughters, Kay Barrett (Terry) of Oakdale, Calif., Judy Cotton (Jerry) of North Platte, Donna Giles (Craig) of West Valley City, Utah, and Barbara Kearl (Doug) of Tremonton, Utah; two sons, Gary Marlin (Terri), and Jerry Marlin (Linda) all of Green River, Wyo.; 23 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, three brothers, three sisters, a daughter, a grandchild, and a great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today at the Green River LDS 1st Ward Chapel, 1000 W. 4th N. in Green River, Wyo., with the Rev. Wade Mecham officiating.

An additional service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the North Platte LDS Chapel, 4100 West A and Lakeview Blvd in North Platte. Interment and military honors will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell.
