Lulu 'Lou' Van Miller

Lou Miller, 97, longtime Farnam resident died Feb. 3, 2000, at Gothenburg.

She was born Aug. 22, 1902, at Barton, W. Va., to David and Martha Williams Boggs. In 1903, the family moved to homestead in western Nebraska. The homestead was traded for Kincaid land north of Lewellen, where she attended grade school. She went to Columbus, Ohio, for nursing training.

On Feb. 11, 1924, she married Fred Miller at Julesburg, Colo. They lived at Lemoyne, where her husband was a rural mail carrier. They moved to Farnam in 1941. She received the Ak-Sar-Ben Good Neighbor award in 1955 for helping others when there was an illness or a need for encouragement. No one left her home without a delicious home cooked meal.

Mrs. Miller is survived by a daughter, Gladys (Arthur) Wolf of Gothenburg; a sister, Mollie Adkins of North Platte; a brother, Mack Boggs of Lewellen; two granddaughters, Geraldine (Larry) Adler of Overland Park, Kan., and Beverly (Del) VanDerWerff of Curtis; four great-grandchildren, Marty Adler, Jaylyn (Brice) Maddock, Stacy Krueger and Jacqueline Hughes; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Jay (Mylie) VanDerWerff and Julie Vohland; and four great-great-grandchildren, Rachel and Hannah Maddock and Kiley Krueger and Alexandria Hughes.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1989; an infant daughter, Bonnie Jean; two sisters, Emma Meissner and Alma Orr; and three brothers, Dee, William and Wes Boggs.

Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell.
