Kathleen (McNickle) Meyers

Kathleen Sarah McNickle went to be with her Lord and Savior, her husband Carl, and son Art, peacefully in her sleep January 25, 2014. She was born August 15, 1918 to parents Grace Ann Wood (McKnickle) and Arthur Daniel McNickle in their farm home at Farnam, Nebraska.

She was the eighth child of 11, 8 boys and 3 girls, spent the first 8 years in a one-room school in Lincoln County Nebraska and in 1936 she graduated with a class of 11 from Farnam High school. That fall, she went from the small town in Nebraska to Washington D.C. to live with her sister Gwen. There she got a job working for the Media Research Bureau studying family history.

In January 1938 she and sister, Gwen moved to Denver and Kay got a job at the A-A Dude Ranch at Encampment Wyoming as a cabin girl. There she met Carl A. Meyers a wrangler for the ranch. They were married in Laramie WY on September 16, 1938. They lived in Grand Lake, CO, Penrose, CO, Ojo Caliente NM, and Florence, CO. They had two sons, Jimmy Lee and Arthur Dale.

Kay had several jobs, she worked at Huitt Furniture as a clerk and part time for 14 years at Jim the Tailor's Clothing Store. She joined the First Baptist Church of Florence were she served as Deaconess and Financial Secretary. She was involved in Mission Society and general welfare of the church. She joined the Salome Rebekah Lodge #7 where she always held an office, receiving the Decoration of Chivalry in 1985.

Her happiest times were spent with her family and especially her grandkids. Kay and Carl spent many happy days traveling all over the U.S. and visiting family along the way in their motor home. Kay was preceded in death by her parents and all her siblings, her husband Carl, and son Art who died in an airplane accident. She is survived by her son, Jim (Marge) L. Meyers; grandchildren, Debra Kay Meyers (Dave McCumber, James (J.D.) Dean Meyers; and great grandchildren, Bret Bodycomb (Kate), Bryce Bodycomb, Shelby Meyers, Lindsey Meyers, Sydney Meyers; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family would like to give special thanks to Jane Chess and her staff at the Florence Care Home and the staff at Sangre de Cristo Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations by be made to the Florence Volunteer Fire Department at 300 West Main, Florence, CO 81226. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 30, 2014 at the Bell Tower Cultural Center (aka First Baptist Church) at 201 E. 2nd Street in Florence, CO. Interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Canon City, CO.
