Obituary

Christ Gaibler was born in Sechselberg, Wurttemberg, Germany, on September 14, 1863, and passed away at his home in Eustis Tuesday, August 2, 1955 at the age of 91 years, 10 months and 19 days.

He came to Bucyrus, Ohio, in 1881, making his home with an aunt and uncle. Here he helped with farm work until 1886 when he came to Nebraska and settled in the territory where a few years later the town of Eustis was established. On September 13, 1886, he was united in marriage to Caroline Smith. To this union four sons and five daughters were born. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lela, age 10 on March 28, 1924, and on June 22, 1955, by Chris, the eldest child, age 64.

Mr. Gaibler lived on a farm west of Eustis until September 1929 when he and Mrs. Gaibler moved to Eustis.

He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran church, having been confirmed April 23, 1877, and the last charter member of St. John’s Lutheran church of Eustis. He served faithfully on the church council for 30 years, and was secretary of the council for 25 consecutive years.

His health was very poor the last five years, four of which he spent in the wheel chair, and for the past six weeks was bedfast.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Caroline Gaibler, four daughters, Mrs. Edna Bick, Moorefield, Mrs. Laura Yeutter, Eustis, Mrs. Ann Cross, Sheridan, Wyoming, and Emma Gaibler, Eustis, three sons, George of Seward, Fred of Eustis, and Elmer of North Platte, sixteen grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. One brother, J. G. Gaibler, Newburg, Oregon, four sisters, Mrs. Mary Schurr, Eustis, Mrs. Pauline Bauer, Los Angeles, California, Mrs. Rike Kropp, Camas, Washington, and Mrs. Tina Overgaard, Council Bluffs, Iowa, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday St. John’s Lutheran Church, Eustis. Pastor M. Stricker of Lexington officiated. Music was furnished by a mixed octet consisting of Loretta Adams, Janet Berke, Janice Keller, Gloria Meyer, Louis Rieker, Fred Toberer, Adolph Toberer, and Robert Zeeh. Mrs. John Wolf was the acoompanist for the octette and also furnished the organ music. Pallbearers were grandsons Harold Bick, Lester Gaibler, Orville Gaibler, Paul Trosper, and nephews Kenneth and Kermit Smith. Burial was at the Lutheran Cemetery in Eustis.
