Mabel Banks Walters, 88, a resident of the Washington County Convalescent Home, Chipley, and formerly of Dothan, died there Friday, Jan. 8, 1993, after an extended illness.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Walters was a native of Webster County, Nebraska. She graduated from the University of Nebraska with a bachelor’s of science and a master’s degree in math and English.

She was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa.

She moved to Blakely, Ga., in 1973, where she was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Blakely.

Survivors include one daughter, Ann Williams, Dothan; seven grandchildren, Walter R. Sheffield, Chris Greer, Donna Hedke, James P. Sheffield, Philip Sheffield, Jane Sheffield and Shirley Sheffield, six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
