Q. B. Pollard, Farnam
Merchant Passes Away

A very large number gathered at the Methodist church last Thursday afternoon to pay their last respects to their neighbor and friend, Q. B. Pollard. The large crowd present at the services and the many beautiful sprays of flowers which banked the rostrum were symbols of the high regard and esteem in which Mr. Pollard was held in the community where he had lived and been engaged in business for over 25 years.

During his entire business life in Farnam, he was keenly interested in civic affairs and improvements. He devoted his life to community interests with a remarkable intensity and steadfastness of purpose. He represented that type of hardy American manhood of the past generation, insisting upon honesty and square dealing in business relations. He willingly and cheerfully endured the hardships of pioneer life for his family, his business and this commnunity.

Quincy Burns Pollard was born April 9, 1868 near Assumption, Illinois, and departed this life February 25, 1936 at his home in Farnam, Nebraska at the age of 67 years, 10 months and 16 days.

He was the eldest child of Morgan and Mary Pollard who have both preceded him in death. When he was four years old the family moved to Winterset, Iowa and several years later moved to Friend, Nebraska.

In 1885 the family moved to a farm near Cambridge where he attended public school.

On November 14, 1894 he was united in marriage to Clara E. Andrew of Friend, Nebr. To this union there were born three children: Fern, Clayton and a son, Marion, who preceded him in death 33 years ago.

Mr. Pollard was a veteran merchant having been engaged in Mercantile business for 50 years. He moved with his family to Farnam in 1910 where he has since been engaged in business.

He was a kind, loving husband and father who cherished his family and found life’s greatest pleasure in his own home.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, two children, one granddaughter, two brothers, three sisters and other relatives and his many friends who remember him as an honest, hard working member of this community.

Within the circle of thy will
All things abide;
So I, exulting, find no ill
When thou dost guide.

In that resplendent will of thine
I calmly rest;
Triumphantly I make it mine,
And count it best.

Funeral services were held ad 1:30 Thursday afternoon at the Farnam Methodist church with the Rev. Sam McKeown officiating. Burial was made in the Cambridge cemetery. Pall bearers were A. D. McNickle, S. B. Cameron, A. B. Carman, G. C. Widick, A. H. Jorgensen and W. E. Russell. The music was furnished by a mixed quartet composed of Mrs. Stanley Williamson, Mrs. G. W. Pollard, A. D. McNickle and John McNickle.
