Obituary Collection
Christian Schurr

Christian Schurr was born August 14, 1856, at Bunzwangen, Germany, and died January 19, 1923, at his home eight miles north west of Eustis, at the age of 63 years, 6 months and 26 days.

He came to this country when he was 26 years old. For a few years he worked on the farm in Illinois and Iowa. In 1889 he moved to Nebraska and settled in Dawson Co., where he has lived ever since. In 1890 he was united in marriage to Marie Anna Gaibler. Ten children were born to this union, all of whom survive him.

For the past eight years he suffered from a serious throat trouble. During all these years he never enjoyed a real meal. How he succeded in keeping body and soul together by his meager diet is little short of a miracle.

Last Friday morning he arose as usual. At about 9:00 o’clock he complained of pains about his chest and was induced to lie down. At 10 o’clock he was breathing his last.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 at the house and at the Lutheran Church, where he held membership since 1890. Rev. Hiltner preached from the text Luke 23:42-43. Burial at the Lutheran cemetery.

Christ Schurr leaves to mourn his death, the widow, ten children, Mrs. Christ Gengenbach of Grant, Nebr., Fred, Mrs. Marie Rieker, Albert, George, John, Alma, Willie, Martin, Arthur, all of Eustis, and a large circle of friends.

Why should we tremble to convey
Their bodies to the tomb?
There Jesus’ holy body lay
There hopes unfading bloom.
