Obituary Collection
George E. Scott
Dies at Home

George Edward Scott, familiar and popular figure of La Grande, died suddenly this morning at his apartment, 404 Fir Street, as result of a heart attack. He was 74 years of age last Tuesday.

Scott was born in Ontario, Canada, and came to this country when he was 18, going first to Nebraska. He came to Elgin in 1909 and lived there for about 20 years before coming to La Grande. For over 10 years he had been caretaker at the public library here and for a part of that time took care of the First Presbyterian church.

“He will be greatly missed by the library staff,” commented Mabel Doty, librarian. “He was such a help around here.”

On June 2 he married to Mrs. Martha Kingsley and the two recently joined the Fir Street Methodist church. He had an attack of influenza recently but had recovered from that a few days ago.

He is survived by his widow, one daughter, Mrs. Esther Turner, of Hillsboro, Ore., three sons, Edward, of Elgin, Daniel and Paul of John Day, Ore. The body is at Snodgrass Funeral Home, but as yet the funeral arrangements have not been made.
