Obituary

Mary Jane Putnam was born in Clayton County, Michigan, on July 4, 1869. She died at her home south of Gothenburg, Nebr., on January 23, 1924. She was 54 years old last July fourth.

At the age of 9 years she left Michigan with her parents and the family went to Yankton, South Dakota where the father homesteaded.

In 1887 the family moved to St. Joseph, Mo., and in that same year the deceased was married to Mr. Isaac Putnam. The following year they went to Iowa and then to Nebraska, settling south of Gothenburg where they have lived ever since.

Five children were born in this home.

One daughter, Rosetta May, who was married to Mr. Roy Olds in 1905. She preceded her mother in death 7 years ago.

Four sons only two of whom are living, Sherman Putnam and Ralph Putnam both at home.

Other relatives are: one brother, David L. Carey of Brady; four sisters, Mrs. Ellen Waterbury of Brady; Mrs. George Olds and Mrs. John Earll of Gothenburg and Mrs. Minnie Putnam of Brady; two granddaughters Mary and Ruby Olds.

These with the husband and friends join in sympathy for one another and feel the loss of one who is gone.

A number of years ago Mrs. Putnam united with the Free Methodist Church at Carbon, Iowa. Since moving from Iowa circumstances have deprived her of church privileges but her life was a testimony to her belief in immortality.

Funeral services were held at Banner church Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. A. V. Hunter, and burial was made in Peckham cemetery.
