Obituary Collection
Elden "Nick" Nickerson

Elden "Nick" Nickerson, age 83, born in Farnam, Nebraska, on June 17th, 1934, the son of Donald and Reba Nickerson, passed away on Wednesday, October 25th, 2017 in Boulder.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years and his brother Joe.

Nick grew up on a farm near Farnam, Nebraska. He married Eleanor Olsson in December of 1956, they then set up housekeeping in Curtis, Nebraska. He farmed with his father in the summers and worked at OK Auto Repair Shop in the winters. He pitched in organized baseball from 1954 through 1964 and served in the US Army Reserves 1952–1959.

They moved to Boulder in the fall of 1964, where he worked as an auto repair mechanic until he retired, except for a five-year stint at Coors from 1972–1977. He began at Russ Lyon’s Chevy, then opened his own auto repair shop, the Bud Cox Mobil Station, at Folsom and Pine in July of 1977. After two years, he sold the Mobil garage and moved to 2800 Moorhead, opening as Nick’s auto repair. It’s still there today and operated by his son.

Nick and Eleanor raised four kids, Dennis (Helen) Nickerson, Janet (Derek) Boucher, Deanne (Troy) Griebe, and Jill (Harold) McCurdy and have a total of 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

In 2000, Nick and Eleanor moved to Longmont, where Eleanor passed away in 2011. In 2012, he moved to Flatirons Terrace in Boulder and really enjoyed the friendly staff and residents. The fact that he was right across the street from CU sports venues may have had some influence on his choice (GO BUFFS). He has been a sports fan all his life and had season tickets for CU football for over 50 years, only missed five games, traveling to many more. He also enjoyed attending the Rockies games and in later years watching the games on tv.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions for Elden "Nick" may be made to the McKinstry Family Scholarship Endowment Fund or Team of Champions Endowment Fund at https://giving.cu.edu.

There will be a memorial service held at 10:30 AM on Monday, October 30, 2017 at Darrell Howe Mortuary in Lafayette.
