Charles Finley Metcalf, son of James and Mary Metcalf, was born August 5, 1887 in Fillmore county, Nebraska.

When still quite small he came with his parents to Frontier county, where they lived on a farm.

On October 20, 1909 he was married to Sarah E. Surber at Stockville, Nebr. To this union were born nine children, five daughters and four sons, four of which preceded him in death. Surviving are his widow Sarah; daughters, Mrs. Ava Callan, Stockville; Mrs. Lila Walthers, Curtis; sons, Stanley, Kearney; Raymond, Gering and Gaylord, Jerome, Idaho; 23 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Inez Brock, Farnam; Nellie Whelan, Colorado, and a brother, Marion, Cozad.

He spent most of his life farming in Frontier coutny and on October 20, 1959 Charlie and Sarah celebrated their Golden Wedding. In March 1960 they retired from the farm to a home in Curtis.

He passed away very suddenly Sunday, Nov. 6, at age of 73 years, 3 months and 1 day.

“Charlie” as he was well known to the entire community, was a kind and loving husband and a wonderful father. His gracious smile and ever willingness to do for others made him everyone’s friend. Besided his relatives, he leaves a host of friends to mourn his passing.
