William Leroy Stebbins
William Leroy Stebbins was born August 11, 1893 and died at the Post hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska, Monday evening, October 28, 1918 at 10:30, from bronchial pneumonia. At no time was he considered serious enough to notify his relatives. Five minutes before the end came he was conversing with his nurse and was in good spirits until death fastened its grip and in so short a time the life expired.
He heard his country's call and answered October 15, 1918, he was gone two weeks and one day. The body was shipped to Farnam October 30 and a short service was held from the house with interment in the Farnam cemetery.
He was born on the Stebbins homestead three miles west of Farnam, and moved with his parents to Farnam, September 10, 1901 and has always made that his home. He was 25 years, 2 months and 17 days old. He was united to Pearl Parker, November 23, 1916. Both he and wife were well known to the people of the community.
He leaves to mourn his departure a wife, father and mother, one brother, besides other near relatives and friends.
He was the last soldier to leave Farnam and the first to return. He will be greatly missed here.
The pall bearers were O. L. Hudson, L. H. Fitch, T. W. Ainlay, A. B. Carmen, T. H. Bayley and G. I. Hicks, members of the Farnam Fire Department of which he also was a member.
